Vaastu is the science of architecture. There are some basic facts as to directions and five basic elements that one must know. Direction of the house should be determined by facing the sun. Geographical directions are also important and should be followed. It should be kept in mind that when one exits from the house, one should keep to his right because in Vaastu vidya, entering from the left is not recommended. All work should be carried out with one facing either north or the east. Different directions are marked for different important daily routines as well as numerous daily religious and social rituals. That is why the household deity should be kept in these specified directions. The kitchen, bathroom and store-room should also be located accordingly.
